What is wrong with Continental Kennel Club? I got a puppy over a month ago now, her papers are from Continental Kennel Club and when I say that people go oh no... Can I get my Australian Shepherd re-registered with Continental Kennel Club? I have a nine month old Australian Shepherd. Her parents are Continental Kennel Club (CKC) registered. I got her when she was ten weeks old. I got her with her papers and signed them and everything, but I never did get online and actually register her. I ended up losing the paper, and I can't find it anywhere. I haven't been able to get in contact with her breeder. Can I register her again?

I called them but they said they only registered dogs and set up events and had no physical kennels to speak of! I'm so confused! Can someone PLEASE give me some info so I can get involved with them?
Continental kennel club and American kennel club? I was wondering what exactly is the difference between Continental Kennel club and the American Kennel club, also, Can you have a dog registered in both? Would it be better if there in both? P.S- What's so bad about mutt dogs? To me that sounds a LOT like racism just a doggy version. Guys, But what if you Register in BOTH, is that possible? Also- I just keep seeing people acting like Mutt's are trash and should be ignored.
Can you switch National Kennel Club(NKC) and Continental Kennel Club(CKC) to AKC? I have a dog that is NKC and CKC. I heard that you can switch Canadian Kennel Club to AKC, But what about Continental or National? That sucks. D:
How old do dogs have to me to breed them with the Continental Kennel Club? I was going to buy a dog from someone and I thought the parents were rather young and wanted to know at what age does the CKC require the parents to be by rules? Thanks!!!

Does a dog need to be pure bred to register with CKC (continental kennel club)? .... If a dog is CKC registered is there any way to know if the animal was pure bred.
Continental kennel club? My friend is maybe getting a boy chihuahua and she was wondering why it wasn't KC reg with the UK kennel club so she asked the breeder and the breeder said that the grandmother on his mothers side was an USA import and she came under continental kennel club and the breeder said that she didn't realise you couldn't transfer her reg to the UK kennel club.Is this true or is she just trying to get my friend to buy the chihuahua?
can anyone tell me why everyone says bad things about the continental kennel club? ? But if you search puppy mills on yahoo all of the stories are about AKC puppy mills almost nothing on the CKC and puppy mills I bought a CKC papered dog and he has a pedigree. the breeder had been registering CKC for 12 years. Maybe the AKC had a big loss in profits after CKC started and had to try to do something about it anyone else feel the same way?
My boxer is CKC, her dad is AKC and her mom is CKC (continental kennel club) can i get akc papers? i have a beautiful purebred boxer puppy, she has great stance and i wanna get her AKC she is currently akc... is their any blood work or fee i can pay to get her tested to be an akc registerd dog
Continental Kennel Club? I know this couple that have a purebred GSD (so they say) that is only registered with the "Continental Kennel Club". They say that the dam and sire are both AKC registered and the owner of the dam would send them the AKC papers. The owner failed to send them the AKC papers and only sent them Continental Kennel Club papers... They are wanting to breed their dog and think that Continental Kennel Club is as good or better than the AKC. How do I convince then that the Continental Kennel Club is a bogus registry.. I need some proof. Thanks
does the Continental Kennel Club permit inbreeding? I got my eye on a little poodle and Don't want no problems.
continental kennel club (ckc) registration? i am in love with a puppy who is registered with the continental kennel club (ckc). his breeder has ckc and akc puppies. i was looking at them all but fell for a ckc puppy. but i have heard that ckc isnt even a reputable registry, anyway. so is the ckc registration just a way for breeders to raise prices (i.e bc most people will pay more for a registered dog) or is to show they follow breeding standards? im wondering bc im thinking of asking the breeder to sell for a lower price without the ckc papers, since ckc is suppossed to be worthless, anyway. I dont want need an akc puppy. if i see one that i like, ill buy her but i wont actively look for akc papers. i already have an akc puppy and realized her papers are pointless since im not showing or breeding. and no thank you, i dont want a dog from the shelter either, at this point in time. the animal shelters in my area are a hassel and im not willing to drive 4 hours to get to a chihuahua rescue shelter. thanks. if you are going to post a reply, please answer my question. please dont just agree with me or post something else that is irrevelant to helping me find an answer. thank you! to the first reply, if you dont like my question or details, you dont have to answer. you chose to answer, i didnt send you an email and beg you. and yes i was refering to you, bc before you edited your question, you did not offer anything of substance. this site is for learning, and when people post replies that dont answer the question ( like you did) it takes away from the purpose of this site and doesnt help the rest of us learn.
What is the generalization about Continental Kennel Club? I personally have been involved in breeding and showing (both bench and field trial shows). I have seen so many people jumping on the bandwagon here about how bad Continental Kennel Club is. I am sorry, but in my experience Continental is the one of the few registries that has DNA on file for puppies. I hate to disillusion you people out there, but puppy mills and bad breeders are in all registry groups. Continental is also one registry that sends people out to make sure the breeders are NOT puppy mills. I think people need to actually deal with a registry and be in the breeder world before they jump on a bandwagon. Personally I would be worried about a registry group that was not affiliated with either of the CKC or AKC or UKC groups. Like the groups called ABDA. I would be worried more about inbreeding here.
Why is everyone so down on the Continental Kennel Club? I purchased a BEAUTIFUL shih-tzu from a local breeder. He is healthy and very smart. I checked out where the pups where kept and the condition of her other pets. She owned 2 cats, and three dogs. All seemed to be clean, healthy and very well socialized. This was NOT a puppy mill. She was very responsible and even gave me her personal contact information if a problem did occur. Her pups were Continental Kennel Club registered, and I could not be happier with my little dog. He is a joy. He has aced all vet checks, and his temperment is wonderful. So... why does everyone focus on the AKC? I checked the BBB and the AKC had way more complaints than CKC. I checked the Continental Kennel Club. Not the Canadian Kennel Club. I do know the difference. No "Wool" has been pulled over my eyes. I didn't get my pup in order to breed him. I got him as a companion to me and my mothers aging dog. Also, I went to many pet stores, and saw their "AKC" registered dogs and I was appalled. I found a local breeder through a vet. He was CKC regeistered, and I was fine with that. He was healthy and well taken care of. So what is it that makes the AKC so reputable? They had to start somewhere. It seems to me there is a new kennel club that is up and coming, and the AKC doesn't like it. And for the record, the CKC does have show events. The CKC does register mutts but their papers will say they are a mixed breed. They register them in order to help identify a lost dog. They also register them in order to be eligable to compete in events. Just because you are a mutt doesn't mean that your not good at what you do.
I am looking for continental kennel club website.? I have a breeder that i purchaseda dog from 4 months ago that did not tell me all that was wrong health wise with this dog.
Continental Kennel Club registration? I just bought a dashund puppy, and im going to ckc register him, but i was wondering what the microchip service was? I know what a microchip is I was just wondering if it pays to have it put in him, or am I just paying for the chip itself. Im new to all of this stuff. Also I was wondering where the chip went and if it hurt the puppy at all?
is the ckc "continental kennel club really that bad? ok i recently just brought a male maltese not really knowing anything about akc ckc or kennel clubs period but since ive had my puppy i have been doing research about the basis of owning a dog and basically i want to know what the big difference is my puppy is snow white with black nose and eyes and i havent had any problems with tearstains its been 2wks and he is still perfect questions 1. whats the big difference? 2. is it possible for me to transfer him to a more reputable club? 3 is there a price difference and if so how much? 4 could it be that the breeder who is not really a breeder was just to cheap to register with akc? the reason i say "the breeder who is not really a breeder is because it someone with two maltese that lets them breed once a year could u please add names of kennels clubs i can transfer 2
continental kennel club LEGIT ? is CKC legit vs akc ?
Should I breed my dog with AKC or Continental Kennel Club? My wife and I have a 1 1/2 year old female black lab. She was Continental registered when we bought her. This will be her first litter that we've allowed her to have. However, apparently she has desirable qualities (I guess a slightly broader head than most females?) and she is a great duck retriever. The owners of two different AKC males want to breed with my female. Would this make it more difficult for the puppies to be AKC or CKC registered? Should I instead breed my female with CKC males only? This is NOT a question about how bad the CKC is. I've seen PERFECT labs and other full bred dogs Continetal registered with no genetic problems (our labs tests came out negative; yeah we had her genetically tested, I'm not going to breed a dog KNOWN to have problems) that did not come out of "puppy mills" or whatever. My dog was not a puppy mill dog and her pups will NEVER be puppy mill dogs. This is not a question about my ethics as a breeder. Answer the question with either AKC or CKC.
CKC? Continental Kennel Club? Alright, well I was browsing through pups for sale and saw that some were CKC registered. What is this? I know of AKC, but not CKC.... Okay...well how do I know...if the pup says CKC registered...then how will I know if its canadian or continental? I could ask the owner...but what if they lie? :/
will the continental kennel club be able to improve there reputation? if so how? *plz be civilized, this is for PLEASANT inquiry thus no negative criticism* i mean they started with a good idea and the ppl that actually show the dogs and compete with them dont go registering chihuahuas as dobermans that is just ppl that want to ruin there reputation or ppl being silly. so how can they fix there reputation that these inconsiderate individuals ruined? also where do you watch there conformation shows? i saw one competition all the dogs looked like there breed. i heard from someone about inbreeding occurs there well it occurs in the AKC and other clubs as well you just have to be responsible. inbreeding occurs to find out what major traits the dogs line has. but the dogs that show shouldnt be held in contempt should they? i mean thats unfair maybe these ppl are trying to make this a reputable club they are trying to improve themselves and fix this
Continental Kennel Club is not a reputable registry. BUT....? Are their breed profiles knowledgeable? For example, if you wanted to know about the American Pit Bull Terrier, and you went to the CKC's breed profile for the APBT (http://www.continentalkennelclub.com/Ads.aspx?BreedNum=20) would the information you found there about APBTs be good information? Help- that's because they will register ***anything***! I know someone on here, their friend ( I think ) registered a STUFFED Dobie!!!! I usually go to UKC's site for the APBTs.
Could a continental kennel club breeder tell me why it would be good to register with the club? I have posted questions about ckc and would love to hear from a CKC breeder and see their web pages. I am not trying to cause an argument, as I have an akc and someone with ckc is asking me about registering mine as both akc and ckc and I would like to know WHY I should. I did want to see at least a little bit of an attempt for a CKC breeder to tell me something GOOD about the program. My dog is going to be doing obediance and agility in AKC programs :) Tis why I searched for a reputable akc breeder. I am reposting this because it seems like there are more people on at night.
Is Continental Kennel Club registration ok for dog who will not be bred or shown? We got my 11 yr old daughter a 4 month old Bichon-A-Poo. She fell in love with this sweet little girl dog and we did not pay much for her. We plan to spay her and will not ever try to show her. I don't care that she is not purebred, we did not buy her for that, my daughter just wanted a girly dog. She wanted to register her under her name and with a fancy registered dog name. I am seeing so many bad things about ConKC and how they do business with puppy mills. We did not get this pup from a mill.. it was a rehome situation where the original buyer got cancer and could not keep her. We will be having her spayed, as my son has a VERY purebred Treeing Walker pup that comes from Championship lines...we do plan to stud him out and we do not want any chance that he will try to breed with the Bichon-A-Poo. So, it is not as if we are trying to breed her or worried about her blood lines. Is it still a waste to even register her at all with ConKC? Ok, completely understand that ConKC would not be good if I ever wanted to breed her or show her. But is it going to be a crime against humanity to let my 11 yr old daughter feel like she gets to give her dog a special name and register her? I mean the Purebred Puppy police won't come beating down my door? I won't go to hell in a handbasket for registering a dog with the ConKC, right? haha... I may just let her enjoy the experience, not like it will ever make a hill of beans. Autumn, My son's dog is 6 weeks old. I never said he was for sure going to be breedable just because he was from Championship lines. Funny how you crazy folks who consider yourself the gods of all things purebred put words in someone's mouth. I said he is FROM Championship lines and IF he turns out to be a good one, my son will compete with him. AND if he EARNS his titles, then SOMEDAY we would like to stud him out. That is beside the point of my question. I am talking a dog who is gonna get fixed and will never reproduce. You say it is a good thing my daughter never planned to show her because she is not purebred. Did you read my comments or just assume I was some idiot who thought I could show a non-purebred dog because you saw ConKC in my question?Geez, this was a mission of goodwill. Is this dog at fault for where it comes from? No... and her owner is DYING, so we helped her out. God forbid. Sorry I even asked. A simple answer would have sufficed instead of trying to insult! Oh and by the way, I paid the same amount I would have paid to adopt at the local shelter or humane society, which is surely where this sweet pup would have gone when her owner died. Have another mixed breed dog who is 7 and is a WONDERFUL dog. He was a rescue at age 2 and we have never regretted getting him. Oh and no... I did not try to get him registered thru ConKC or anywhere else for that matter. I guess the whole point has been missed... better tell my daughter the experts on here suggest she kill the dreams she had of registering her mixed breed dog, breeding her in her very enterprising backyard puppy mill, and showing her in the Eukanuba dog shows. I know she will be heartbroken. Autumn, Oh excuse me... Oh knowing one... we just got my son's dog 2 days ago and he was the first of the litter to be sold. And by someone who has been breeding, hunting, and showing coon dogs for a very long time. Guess maybe he should have come here to check with the experts before deciding when to sell them. I am not the one who needs a chill pill. Some of you just really need to not JUMP on innocent people coming here just to ask a simple question. DIVAPOM, Thank you for that! See, that is what I was looking for. A GOOD and NICE answer. I had no idea about the AKC mixed breed part. I just looked it up and I see it is for spayed/neutered dogs. That would be perfect and I would rather spend my money on that. Thank you so very much for your kindness! ragapple, thank you for your response. When I was saying about the dreams of Eukanuba showmanship I was being a smart butt. LOL, it has just been one of those weeks and some on here brought out the sarcastic side of me. I apologize for my sarcasticness. We never went to find a show dog. In fact, we looked at the local shelter first but she wanted a small female and there were none available. A friend at our vet's office told us about this little dog needing a home so we went to see her and my daughter fell in love with her. I do feel better about the AKC mixed breed registration and I do thank those of you who let me know about it. That is why I asked and I do appreciate so much that you helped me!
Is CKC (continental kennel club) legit? I just bought a rottweiler puppy from a CKC certified breeder. I have heard that the breeders in CKC are puppy mill breeders, but when i went to pick him up it looked nothing like a puppy mill and i interacted with the mom and saw pics of the dad (the owner said he was at his brothers because he is aggresive with the pups). They both looked like good dogs. The registration paper i got says purebred on it. Is this legit? Please tell me it is, i don't want to be ripped off 500 for a bad dog. Please anwer ASAP!
We just received a Yorkie puppy as a gift that was bought from a member of the Continental Kennel Club. She? had fleas when we received her and we immediately took her to our vet to rid her of them, but she didn't receive our help fast enough for on our third day of ownership (a Sunday) we had to rush her to an emergency animal hospital where they fought all night to save her little life. They found her to be severely anemic due to the flea bites on a 14 ounce, 6 wk old puppy. Shouldn't the breeder accept some responsibility for this. Our hospital bill was over $800.00. I suspect he might be running a puppy mill!
What kennel club should I register my Pit Bull besides UKC? United Kennel Club will not register my Gottiline/Razor Edge pit bull because they cannot get in touch of the dames original owner. I have the sire and the dam's UKC numbers and there is no mistaking that she is pure bred, but they will not register her unless they can get in touch of the owner at the time mating. I have Continental Kennel Club sending me paperwork for registration; however I am wondering if there is a kennel club that is more recognized by pit bull breeders? Please reply with information that might be helpful. Cheers!!
CKC Registration or Continental Kennel Cub, is it any good?!? Last night I purchased an american pit bull terrier puppy. I paid $150 for her and she is very good quality. Her mom is UKC and CKC registered, but her dad is only CKC registered, so that is all she is. Her parents were good, the breeder was good, and the puppy is good. Also her mother's parents were both purple ribbon champions if that matters. But I am wondering is CKC a good kennel club/registry? Please no rude comments.
Can I claim my dog on income taxes? I just bought a purebred pomeranian which I just registered with the continental kennel club .Someone told me to claim her . How does this work?
What are some differences between AKC and CKC? Now, before you respond, please read: First of all, I am talking about the Canadian Kennel Club, not the Continental Kennel Club. What are some breeds that one registry will accept but the other will not? Are there any differences in the breed standard of certain breeds? How are the conformation shows different? Any other details you'd like to add!
How can i be sure my german shepherd is pure? The mother and father are pure breed according to continental kennel club... and my puppy has a "fault" color and ppl are saying he's not pure breed how can check if he is... and can i ever register him as akc?
What are the names of the junk registries for dogs? What i am asking is what are their names of the junk or no good registries? i only know of one CKC (continental kennel club) please give the abbreviation and the full name, if you can. I just want to know? out of curiosity, no rude comments.
How to change a CKC registered dogs Information? I bought a dog that is registered with the Continental Kennel Club. They gave me his ID and they are listed as the owners. How do I change his information? I am worried if he is ever lost or stolen it would be hard to prove ownership with their name on the paperwork.
Is the CKC pet registry just for puppy mills? I have found many site that have said the Continental Kennel Club is unmonitored and is just a way for puppy mills to charge more for their puppies. Does anyone have any accurate information?
Should i get basic registration or registration with pedigree for my puppy? i have a purebred toy Pomeranian puppy and i'm not sure if i should do basic registration or registration with pedigree? what is the difference? also he is going to be a stud dog so is the pedigree important? He is getting registered to the continental kennel club. thanks
Who is the best dog registry? I own a 4 yr. old American Pit Bull Terrier, Two puppies about 9 weeks, and another who is 4 months.Only one of the puppies came with registration papers for CKC (continental kennel club) and NAPDR. Me and my Husband are wanting to eventually start a kennel. Im looking for any tips i can get about registry. Thanks!
Why is everyone saying my dog is registered with a non-reputable club? I have a chihuahua and she is registered with the Continental Kennel Club. She is about to have a litter and they will be CKC and AKC registered. I have always been told that those to registrations are worth at leash $400 dollars added to the puppy's price. I'm really confused because I've been researching this and it says that dogs registered with the CKC aren't worth anything. I have a friend that sells her pups for $250 without papers and now everyone is saying that even with the two registrations my puppies aren't worth more than $50. I realize that I've asked questions like this before and there is this person that keeps saying I'm running a puppy mill. I'M NOT RUNNING A PUPPY MILL!!!! I HAVE ONE, COUNT IT ONE CHIHUAHUA! I CANNOT RUN A PUPPY MILL WITH ONE CHIHUAHUA! So please. I'm honestly confused. I just need some straight forward answers. I'm not a backyard breeder! We are breeding her ONCE! We want to keep two puppies! I'm not a breeder at all!
Has any one gotten A pedigree for there dog from the CKC? That is from the Continental Kennel Club. If so how many generations back? Thanks!

what is the difference between CKC & AKC registered dogs? I know that CKC is Continental kennel club & that AKC is American kennel club. Is one better than the other? What about cross registering puppies... if one parent is AKC & the other is CKC how do you register the litter? I'm not a breeder nor am I wishing to breed ~ I'm just curious that's all.
Does anyone know how we could go about disputing the fact that a dog that is registered with the CKC? (Continental Kennel Club) is "Purebred" This is the biggest crock I have ever seen.
Does anyone know how I would find a male Shi Tsu to mate with my female Shih Tsu? I have a female Shih Tsu who is registered with the Continental Kennel Club. I would like to mate her in 5-6 months but have no idea how to find a male Shih Tsu in my area. I live in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. PA. Any help would be much appreciated :) I have no intentions of getting into the breeding business or making her a show dog. I just want to breed her once because some family and friends would like to have puppies. After that, I plan on having her spayed.
how do you do a dog look up on the CKC website? unlike AKC which has a dog look up where you enter the dogs registration number and then it will tell you all the dogs information the CKC website doesn't have one or at least i can't find it the breeder i bought my siberian husky from had them registered to the Continental Kennel Club is there any way i can search for my dogs puppy registration number? like how you can on the Akc website? well then am i still able to register her to the AKC even though she is registered to the CKC?
How many "non-reputable" registries for Pets (in specific - Dogs) are there? Can I upgrade a CKC registered dog to an AKC registered dog? I bought a chihuahua that is CKC (Continental Kennel Club)registered from a pet store. Can I upgrade her registration to AKC? Yes I do have a line of pedigree...and the petstore is owned by a respectable person. There is no need to call people stupid... unless of course you've been called stupid your entire life. You might think its normal.
When people say the CKC is crap and fake...? Are they saying that the Canadian Kennel Club is fake and crap and only used to get higher prices on puppies that are probably terrible because I totally disagree. CKC is excellent and it's no worse than the AKC. Or is everyone referring to the Continental Kennel Club?
What happened to the Ckc website? I can't get a hold of the Continental kennel club...does anyone know what happened to their website?
United Kennel Club (UKC) Obedience? What are the classes and exercises in UKC obedience? I looked on their website and googled it, but could not find any info. Is it like AKC? Are there any other clubs that do obedience and conformation besides AKC, UKC, IABCA, and Candian KC? Does APRI or Continental KC? Or are they just registeries? I do show in ASCA with my papillons.
i have 2 shih tzu's, one is ckc and one is aca. Which one would i register the pups? ckc-continental kennel club aca-american canine association in case you dont know what they are
Are you going to breed your dog? <--- See him? For those who don't know, he is my Coby, my maltese/poodle MUTT. I got him from a rescue a few weeks ago. Anyway, I was with him in PetSmart when a lady asked, "What kind of dog is he?" I answered, "He's a maltese/poodle mix." The lady got a delighted look on her face. "Oh, a maltipoo? I love those dogs." "Something like that," I agreed through my teeth, wishing I could chew her out. "My Bella looks just like him. Maltipoos are great." The lady smiled and reached down to pet him. (Coby, bless him, slunk away from her hand and let out a low growl.) "Especially when you count all the genetic health problems," I added under my breath. She didn't hear me though. "He has a great temperment," she told me as Coby tried to hide from her. "Are you going to breed him?" I had a water bottle in my hand and I dropped it. My mouth fell open. Coby looked at me like I was crazy. "What?" I asked the woman, my eyes locking onto hers. She started to get uncomfortable. "He looks like a great breeding specimen. There aren't enough maltipoos nowadays. The pet store by me hasn't had any in stock since April." I was still frozen. A smile danced across my face, and an evil glint appeared in my eye. "Why yes," I agreed, "there *aren't* enough maltipoos nowadays." The lady looked relieved. "You know," she started, "I'm looking for a stud for my Bella. Would you be interested?" I didn't mention that Coby was neutered. "Maybe," I answered. "Is she a good specimen?" "Oh yes!" The lady began to tell me all about her Bella. "She's small-- about 6 pounds. She's pure white with brown eyes. She's very clean. I think she'd make a great mom." "She sure sounds like it," I agreed, my smile getting bigger. "What else?" She thought for a moment. "She gets compliments all the time. She's very cute." "She sure sounds like it," I agreed. "I just have a few more questions." "Sure," the lady said. "Has she been tested for vWB? How was her OFA score? Her CERF? Narcolepsy? Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency? Dyslapsia? Hypothyroidism? Progressive Retinal Atrophy?" The lady's eyes got bigger and bigger as I listed off some more (luckily I had just read an article about it. Funny how things work, huh?) Finally, when I was finished, she answered. "Her vet said she was really healthy." I smiled. "Of course. Is she registered?" "Yes!" the lady said proudly. "The Continental Kennel Club." "Oh wow. That's wonderful." I paused, composing myself. "Has she won any titles?" The lady looked at me blankly. "In dog shows?" I added. A pause. "I wasn't aware the CKC held dog shows." I shrugged. "Ah, well. It doesn't matter. Your Bella seems like a wonderful dog." "Oh, she is," the lady assured me. "Maybe I will stud out my Coby." The lady's face lit up. "That's wonderful! Bella will go into her first heat any day now, so I'll email you. Sound like a plan?" My smile got ten times wider. "Oh yes, it sure does. Only, I forgot to mention one thing." "Yeah?" "I only let Coby mate with b*tches that are spayed." The lady's face took on a look of confusion. "But... that means a dog can't have puppies." "Exactly." Angry, the lady stalked off, and I hurried to the car before I broke down into a fit of laughter that lasted a good ten minutes. Coby just looked at me the whole time. I was wondering... has anyone ever come up to you and asked about breeding your dog? What'd you do?
Different between AKC, CKC??? What are the different between all the club. Continental Kennel Club, Canadian Kennel Club, America Kennel Club? What else are there? Does it make any different if the dog has AKC, CKC, or CKC paper?
can i register my puppy with akc? ok i bought a german sheperd, his mom is registered with akc and his dad is registered with ckc. (continental kennel club). my question is can i register him with akc? thanks
Difference between AKC and CKC? I'm looking for a boxer puppy right now and i was wondering what the difference between AKC and CKC is? I mean i know what they mean AKC ( American Kennel Club ) and CKC ( Continental Kennel Club ) right? So i was wondering what is actually better? And if the breeder has one AKC registered and One CKC registered can they sell the puppies as registered? I hope you understand what i mean and thx for the answers.
Locating Puppies Parents? A month ago, my family and I bought a baby Yorkie at a pet store and his ckc papers came with him. We live in California and when I read the papers it said my puppy was from Phoenix, Arizona. The paper also has my puppies parents names and ckc# 's. I'd like to see pictures of his parents. Is there a site where I can type in all the parent's info to see pictures of them? I went to the Continental Kennel Club site to look for Yorkie breeders from Arizona, but there weren't any. I know the parent's names and numbers and the breeders address and breeder number too.
Massive Mastiff Help? How come the bullmastiff is one breed, but in the akc they call for a dog thats up to 27 inches, in all my books is says up to 28 inches and the continental Kennel Club calls for 29 inches ?Also Akc calls for dogs up to 133 pounds, all my books say up to 135 pounds ( Sometimes more, with some Reaching Up To 165 pounds ) And then the Continental Kennel Club Calls for up to 140 pounds? Also do neapolitan Mastiffs make good family dogs ? I was wanting a large to giant sized mastiff like breed, and i thought they fit the bill. Also are they good for an active family ? With 2 kids both 11. I know English Mastiffs get 28 - 36 inches and 170 - 250 pounds. But its the bullmastiffs, and neo mastiffs.
What Defines A "Breed"? Dog Experts...please explain the following... What exactly, defines or legitamizes a "breed" as a "breed"? For example, America's best known kennel club, the AKC, has been lax in accepting puppymill breeders for years including being half-hearted in verifying their DNA...and of course, breeds existed long before the AKC, so the AKC doesn't "define" or "legitimize" a breed...it merely selects particular breeds it feels are popular enough or distinctive enough to merit inclusion. Then there's other kennel clubs, like the Continental Kennel Club, or the National Kennel Club, who include many many more breeds than the AKC, yet are considered even less thorough in their vetting of breeders than the AKC is. Then there's breeds that have long, rich histories, responsible breeders, and distinctive specifications, such as the Catahoula Leopard Dog, the Blue Lacy, and the Dogo Argentino, who's breeders DON'T WANT TO BE in the AKC, because the AKC breeds foremost for looks, rather than brains or working-prowess, so dogs such as Catahoula's, Blue Lacy's, and Dogo Argentino's, would have their breed's usefulness as tracking dogs and hunting dogs dilluted if their breeders had to worry whether they were 24 or 25 inches tall, or whether they weighed 65 vs. 70 pounds, etc. Which brings me to where I started...WHO DEFINES WHAT A "BREED" IS?...and WHAT is that definition? Clearly the AKC doesn't "define" what one is (for example my Duck Toller didn't magically become a "breed" in 2003, it's the same dog it was the night before). Yet on the flipside, some less reputable kennel clubs liberalize the definition of a "breed" to include dogs with no set specs, history, or unique DNA. So I ask this question philosophically...what is a breed...and who or what do you feel has the right to define what strains of dog meet the requirement of a breed?
Scam Registries? I am a lab rescue volunteer and in a quest to educate others, I am educating myself. As I currently understand it, the American Kennel Club and United Kennel Club are the only clubs that are reputable dog registries. I also know that the National Kennel Club (NKC), Continental Kennel Club (CKC), and American Pet Registry (APR) are just scam registries used by backyard breeders. What are other reputable registries (if there are any, I currently believe these are the only two)? What are other scam registries or untrustworthy registries? May Domainee - Thanks so much. That's exactly what I was looking for. Usually similar questions pop up when you ask, but nothing came up before I submitted.

How can I register a dog with AKC and CKC parents? She was born in the US and now lives in Canada with us. We have proof that both her parents are pure-breed rough collies, BUT the things is that her mother was registered with the AKC (American Kennel Club) and her father was registered with the CKC (Continental Kennel Club) Are there ANY kennel clubs (doesn't matter what) that I can register her with? Also, we have a male and he is registered with the AKC. It would be perfect if the kennel club I register my girl with also recognizes AKC and approve my boy too.
AKC vs. CKC? I think I may have finally found a reputable breeder. Her dogs are family raised, aren't constantly kept in kennels, she has references, genetic guarantees, she makes sure the puppies don't leave their mother too early, she only raises one breed, and told me up front what kind of problems this breed is prone too. She also has her dogs registered. But what worries me is that they are CKC registered (Continental Kennel Club). I've been told that CKC is better than AKC. CKC is more lenient with what dogs they accept, and that they aren't as good as AKC. Just because a dog is AKC registered, doesn't mean the breeders are reputable. Some people see that a dog is AKC registered and immediately think they're getting the best. In fact, the breeder I'm considering uses CKC and not AKC because she thinks this will discourage people who want an AKC puppy to one day breed at a puppy mill. My question is do you think that this is a reputable breeder even though her dogs are CKC? I'm looking for a Westie, just for a pet. I won't be breeding it. The breeder I'm interested has a genetic health guarantee on the dogs and will provide references upon request. She's asking $700 for a CKC puppy. Is this too much?
What is CKC registered? I know AKC is the American Kennel Club but my brother is looking for a gsd puppy, I found a couple but the lady said " CKC registered, Continental Kennel Club, Our male is double register AKC and CKC." What does that mean?! I don't want him to buy a dog that's not papered correctly. Is CKC good? Or rather explain what the difference between CKC and AKC is? I'll call him in the morning and tell him to avoid her then. Its really hard to find an AKC registered gsd around here for some reason :(
My dogs are CKC registered. What does this mean? My mini schnauzers are both CKC registered, as in Continental Kennel Club. My first schanuzer came from a really good breeder who has been showing and breeding for 30+ years. My second schanuzer came from a lady who has been breeding them for 10 years. She got her male from SD and her female from MN. Does CKC always mean they're bred bad? Like puppy mills and BYB? I'm just wondering. I'm kind of worried about it because there is a question here about the CKC and a lot of answers said the continental kennel club is VERY BAD. Help out please. I still love them both regardless of anything in their lines I'm just wondering if being CKC registered means that they may have genetic issues. I wouldn't stop loving them because of their registration! I'm just worried about their health. So just out of curiosity, what are the AKC standards that prohibit some dogs from being registered with them? Besides not being pure-bred, of course. And is there any way to register CKC pups with the AKC or the Canada KC? I'm new to actually registering dogs, these are my first purebreds and I've had dogs for 17 years! I'm glad they are too, since they seem to have better personalities than most :) Very loveable little things.
is this true about akc for dogs??????? Another tool of puppy millers to make their dogs sound well bred is American Kennel Club (AKC) papers. The AKC is only a registry, and as such, has no regulatory ability over breeding practices. It exists to track the parentage of purebred dogs. Ever since its inception, a breeder was on their honor to be honest about the parentage of the puppies they produce. Mills were able to register anything, even cross breeds, as purebred dogs. An uneducated puppy buyer wouldn’t even know the difference. Another common practice was bunching puppies together. The AKC charges a fee per litter, not per puppy. If you have two females of the same breed with litters at the same time, even if the ages of the puppies are quite different, register them as one litter and save a little money. Another common practice was to add a few extra puppies to a litter so that you can register puppies for your friend whose AKC privileges have been revoked. Things are changing, now, however. The AKC has now started requiring DNA testing for breeding dogs and puppies, which increases the costs to the miller dramatically, and vastly increases the chances of them getting caught for their dirty dealings and losing AKC privileges. Does this deter the millers? Not really. They just turn to different registries, like the Continental Kennel Club (CKC), America’s Pet Registry (APR), and others. Purebred papers from these sources are not worth the paper they’re printed on. Millers don’t even have to prove they own the dogs they bred, or that they are the breed they claim. These registries will even register mixed breeds, like cock-a-poos!
