Best airline for pet travel ? Hi, I'm planning to travel in June from San Francisco to Toronto. I have a pomeranian, and planning to take her with me inside the cabin if possible, but I'm really nervous about it. AND I can't find a direct flight. Can anyone with experiences recommend the best airline for traveling with pet?? And if anyone have bad experience with certain airline please let me know. And how do you control the barking? please don't recommend me to sedate my dog while flying, I'm against that.
Any recommendations on the best pet carrier for airline travel? My grandmother has a bischion. She and her 2 yr old dog would like to visit me after the holidays via plane. I am on the west coast while she is on the east coast. She has a bad back and bad knees so I would like to purchase a carrier that can fit under her seat and one with wheels that she can push / pull around. Any suggestions on the best one available that is both plane approved and afforable?
contact the airport? or the airline? (Pet Travel)? So I live in a very small town with a single-runway airport about 45 minutes away. I plan to travel in July and bring my pet dog with me. My husband is insisting that, because the airport itself is soooo small, that they wont fly pets. I'm not convinced, but I can't find anything that directly tells me...anything. My dilemma is, do I contact the airlines I plan to purchase tickets from? or do I contact the airport? Also, leaving from this small airport does mean that I'll HAVE to make at least ONE stop.....would it be better to drive a few hours out to the closest major airport and try to get a nonstop flight for my pet's comfort? Or would it make a difference?
Can I travel on a different airline as my pet? I am planning on moving away from Puerto Rico to Florida very soon, and will be taking my dog, a 35 libs (aprox) Beagle. I see that the best arrangements for him would be with American Airlines, since no other airlines flies pets from here, but I want to travel with another airline. Is that possible? Further enlightenment would be very much appreciated!
Pet carrier for airline travel? I have a schnauzer about 15-20lbs. What's the best stroller/carrier for a dog her size for air trave? Any other useful info about air travel with your pet is appreciated.
Airline travel with pet cat? Needs to be free. Cat is 18lbs? I have extensive work travel coming up and dont want to leave my travel kitty home. What are my options for bringing him with me. Work will not be paying extra for him. Logan is 18lbs. What airlines have the cheapest & safest service? I dont want to put him in the cargo hold. No need to be insulting, you WILL be reported. FYI - Logan is part Maine Coon. Male Coons are usually around 25lbs. This is for USA DOMESTIC only flights. Can anyone please recommend SPECIFIC airlines with up to date knowledge?
Which airline is best for pet travel? I'm flying to San Diego from NYC with my golden retriever and 2 cats. I'm flying to San Diego from NYC with my golden retriever and 2 cats, and would like to be with them on the same flight.
Help appreciated with airline travel with a pet? I know this is a bit of a no-no.... I have a new kitten/cat that is soooo easy going. (He will even let you give him a bath without a fight) Anyhow, he is going to travel on a 1 segment, 2 hour plane ride with me. When I asked the airline about taking kitty for my carry on, they wanted $90.00 ONE WAY or $180.00 round trip. At this price, I can get him his own seat, for it cost me on $20.00 more for my ticket that gets a snack/drink and a seat with a view other than people's feet. I know this is awful... I just can't afford this extra $ and I will be gone a month, so I cant trust his care that long to a neighbor. Anyhow, I have strongly considering being a "kitty smugler". I was going to go to the vet and get something to help keep him calm. (he never Meows, so no worries there) Now the question... When going thru security and they check your ticket going through security, do they check your pets ticket? Obviously, then I would be busted. Any advise is much appreciated
Has anyone used a pet airline where they are flown in the main cabin? What was your experience? We live in Wisconsin, and getting a pup from NewJersey. In this winter weather, I am afraid to chance driving. I have heard horror stories about pets being flown in cargo. I have been told that you can request a pressurized cargo in some airlines. I also have read about an airline that actually is only for pet travel and they have kennels right in the main cabin instead of seats. I am looking for people with experience with flying their pups and suggestions.
best airline for pet travel? OK so holiday season is creeping up on us little by little and I need to make arrangements to get me and my miniature pinscher, Mia to and from NY to DC twice within the same month. I have a carrier for her, her shots are up to date, ... any suggestions on which airline is the best to travel with an on board animal? Thanks for the suggestions!
A question to those who travel on the airline whith their pet? I know this is a bit of a no-no.... I have a new kitten/cat that is soooo easy going. When going thru security and they check your ticket going through security, do they check your pets ticket? Obviously, then I would be busted. Any advise is much appreciated Hey guys... You have he wrong idea! I am NOT planning be a cat abuser & stuff him in my suitcase. He is going as my carry on in a proper size, soft sided animal carrier that looks like a normal carry on bag when you close the netted windows on it. (Just during loading.. When he is under the seat, I would open them) I was a Flight Attendant myself for AA right out of college in 91-93. We had no training regarding pets and I was wondering if it had changed any. Also if they need any type documentation at the Security checkpoint when they check your ticket and ID. Their main concern is not "pet patrol", but security.
Airline approved pet carriers for in cabin travel? Hello, I am wondering if anyone knows the dimensions and types of pet carriers that are allowed in the cabin of the plane when flying? I am flying from Alaska to Texas and need to take my dog so i need to find a carrier and don't know what to get. Also what else do i need to fly with my puppy? How to best travel via airline with a cat? How long/well do tranquilizers work? Hi. I am moving from CA to CO with my cat, and looking for the best options. I considered driving, but I think that would be a few days of absolute hell vs. a few hours flying. I'm hoping for the least possible trauma to my cat (and myself, the other passengers...) Has anyone used tranquilizers during pet travel, if so how well and long do they work? Thank you,
What does everyone think about Pet Airways? Pet Only Airline..? I wanted to see what everyone thought about Pet Airways? Seems like a great concept compared to pet travel on traditional airlines. Pet Airways actually flies pets in the main cabin, not in cargo and has a pet attendant taking care of them at all time. Thoughts? See more at www.petairways.com
Does anybody know airlines with heated luggage for pet travel? My husband and I are moving from Detroit to Seattle in lat February early March. We'd like to fly our cats there, but most airlines have temperature restrictions. Anyone have suggestions? We've already called several airlines and they have temperature restrictions for cold weather as well... If I'm asking what the best arrangements are for pet travel do you think we'd just show up and expect the air line to take care of us? It's October.. we don't leave until March I was hoping someone had some insight and not information we were already aware of.
GREATLY appreciated info from Gov't. Airline Security Agent, Experienced flyer w/ pet or Airline personel? k guys..... I have heard from a few of you regarding your personal opion, and appreciate your personal wisdom. However, I would greatly appreciate any feedback from experienced traveler w/ pet, Gov't. Airport Security Agent or Airline Employee. You can travel with a child on your lap for free until they are 2 (maybe 3 if they are small), but it cost $90.00 one way ($180.00 round trip) to bring a small cat in a soft sided, pet travel bag as my carry on for a one segment, 1 1/2 hr. flight. Seriously, for $20.00 he could have his own ticketed seat. My question: When going through Airport security, officials are require to look at your ticket and ID. When you have a pet w/ you, do they look for a "special" marking on my ticket that designates I have already made arrangements & paid the airline or do the care?
United Airlines international pet travel. Anyone with experience?? I'm getting ready to move home from Japan to the USA and I have a cat to bring. My employer booked and paid for my ticket, so I didn't have a choice in the airline and United was chosen for me. I've been looking on the net about bringing my cat with me and I can't figure out if I'm going to be able to bring her or not. It might be too hot for cargo, can she ride in the cab with me for such a long flight? Anyone ever done this type of thing before? I can't leave her, she's my best friend...
What is the best airline to fly with a cat? I'm flying from NYC to LAX in early June. I'm moving so I will be bringing my cat with me. Does anyone have any favorite airlines for pet travel? My cat is very affectionate and sweet but makes a lot of noise when he's in the carrier. Any tips?
International pet travel from USA to UK? Which airline have you and your pet flew together in the cabin from LAX to LHR? In February of 2012, I will be flying with my pet from LAX (Los Angeles) to LHR (London Heathrow) I have a small deer chihuahua weighing 4lbs, so I want her to be 'in the cabin' with me. She has been through all the requirements of the United Kingdom's Pets Travel Scheme and DEFRA. I'm having trouble finding out which airlines will allow me to take her with me in the cabin. I was wondering if anyone here has taken this route and could share their experience with recommendations of what airline I should or should NOT consider, (as I've noticed each airline and each airport have their own additional conditions for pet travel) Continental Airlines at LAX seems to be the only option so far. For the route I will be taking, they appear to be the only airline that allows pet travel in the cabin from LAX to LHR. Continental airlines appears to be great to go with, but are they my only option? Are there any other airlines that you've experienced and would recommend me looking into? I've done my reading and I have spoke with airline agents, some agents have not been helpful, as they read the rules directly from their website that I've already done myself, which doesn't provide much information. They also tell me there is no other information about it, so they are unable to give me an answer.
Any airlines with lower PET TRAVEL fees? The usual charge is $100 each way...which I think is messed up and fucked. I'm not even allowed to open the bag so the dog is pretty much just a carry on. Aaaanyway....anybody know airlines who charge less?
How to travel on a plane with my cats? I will be moving from the west coast to New York this January. I have never traveled with pets on a plane. I have two cats that I would like to bring with me. What will I need to do this? Are there specific shots that my cats will have to have updated? What airlines allow pet travel? What kind of shelter should I purchase for them (that will keep them extremely safe) to be contained in. I would like my cats to be SAFE and comfortable as the plane trip will be almost 4 hours long. All information would be greatly appreciated!
What is the best dog carrier for airline travel? I'm flying with my 13 pound miniature dachshund for the first time in April and am looking for a dog carrier that will fit underneath the seat in front of me for the flight. Does anyone have experience with this and, if so, can you recommend a good brand of soft-sided pet carrier (preferably with a shoulder strap)? Thanks!

What airline pet carrier is best for my french bulldog? I have a french bulldog puppy and I want to buy a travel carrier that he will fit into when he's an adult. He's small and both of his parents are on the smaller side (Dad 25, Mom 21 lbs) -- which brand and size do you recommend? I want a soft sided crate that I can take in the cabin.

Do you know any pet friendly hotels in the south beach area? As well as pet friendly airlines that will allow you to travel with your pet on board, I have a toy pomeranian puppy, 3 months old, where can I find information on traveling with pets? Also would I be able to use sites like priceline and other discount airline sites to book my flight or should I just book my flight directly through the airline?

How can I take legal action towards an airline company who mistreated my pet while she traveled overseas?HELP! My 6 year-old Beagle had to travel by airplane, I bought her a very nice kennel to make sure she was comfortable, we followed all the vet's instructions to make sure she was OK. She did well the first time, it was a 10-hr flight. Then on our way back, she arrived in very bad condition, her eyes were bloated, she couldn't stop vomiting and eliminating her waste (full of blood) and was very nervous. I couldn't believe my eyes when I took her out of the kennel at the airport. The veterinarian examined her and told me that for her symptoms it seems that the cabin where she traveled wasn't well pressurized and she was lucky to make it alive. Thank God she is fine again. I have to travel again, with her, I have the return ticket with the same airline, and I am afraid to put her in a high risk situation. I want to take legal action towards the airline and I don't want to travel anymore with this airline (supposedly one of the best that exist now). How can I do? I need HELP from a Lawyer!
Pet travel from Guatemala to California? I will be traveling to California in February '10, I'm taking my 6 month old miniature schnauzer (he'll be 8 months then) and I need to know exactly what I need to be able to take him with me, and which airline should I choose to fly with that won't be expensive to take him with me? He's small, has all his shots up to date, please help!
What exactly do i need to travel with my pet in the US? Im moving to Indiana from Florida and i have a small dog that i want to take with me. I checked the website for an airline and it says it "does not require a health certificate for carried-on or checked pets, upon arrival, the certificate may be required by the state."What does that mean? Does he need to have his shots? What about the kennel? What size does it have to be? PLease help. I'd appreciate it so much.

Is it safe for my dog to travel with me? I have a 3 month old toy yorkie poo and I read that my airline is allowing pets to travel in-cabin. I would love for her to travel with me but I'm afraid it would not be safe for her; like it would compromise her health or something. Please give me some advice.
I am looking for truly airline approved pet carriers, for in-cabin and/or Cargo Bay? I am planning a long distance relocation (14 hrs) with my wonderful pooch (19lbs./18" L 10" H) He is an absolute joy and is truly and honestly proned to quiet with days between barks and even rarer whines still all the while ever the social love bug. He is perfect for traveling in the cabin, but I want to make sure he is comfortable while abiding by airline regs. But every bag claims to be Airline Approved. Part of the journey he might be confined to the Cargo Hold, same issue, need to make sure he is safe and comfortable. I would greatly appreciate hearing from experienced and well-traveled Doggie Parents with sound advice! Thanks
How to travel a pet to me? Is their anyway to fly a cat down to me in Florida from New York, by them self? What airlines do this if they do?
which airlines allow pets to travel in passanger cabin? Do you know of any UK airlines that allow small cats to travel on the plane with you, as an accompanied baggage? I do NOT want to have her transported in the cargo area. Flights from London Gatwick to Krakow Poland. Many thanks
Can pets travel alone on a flight or do they have to be accompanied by a person? My sister wants to send her to dog to me but I am unsure if they can travel alone on a plane. I have been searching and called the airlines but lack of answers (it's not that hard of a question) and was wondering if anyone knew if dogs could travel alone and which airline does it. Please and thank you. Also, which airlines allow dogs to travel alone?
Pet Travel? Does anyone have experience travelling with a pet from the US to Ireland with Aer Lingus (or another major US airline). I have the paperwork done, I need advice about which carrier is least likely to murder Furrball (cat, sweet, neurotic, mine...)
Is it hard to travel with pets (dogs) on airplanes? I live and work about 13 hours away from my hometown and where my family still lives. When I go home to visit, I usually fly because I cannot stand being on the road 13 hours. However, I am really wanting to get a small dog (10lbs or under) and I'm wondering if it is difficult to fly with a pet. I have looked up several airlines pet policies and it looks like a lot of them do allow pets. For those of you who have flow with pets (or know more about flying with them than I do) please advise me on whether or not its difficult to have a pet and be able to fly home on occassion. I usually go home a few times a year (usually around the holidays). Of course, I probably wouldn't take my pet with me everytime, just occasionally if I stayed home to visit for a while. Thanks!
I need to travel with pet / dog (Mongolia to the US). Concerned about weather, cargo, luggage...? I will be moving home next February from Mongolia to the US. I am concerned about weather and it being to cold for her to go on flights as luggage and freezing to death because the luggage container under an airplane is not temperature regulated. What is the difference between pets traveling as luggage or cargo on flights? Are there special ways of getting her to the US without freezing? Someone told me there might be temperature regulated containers under planes for pets. Will I have to send her this fall to avoid the freezing temperatures in the winter? Finally, what are the temperatures at which an airline determines that it is unsafe to send pets on a flight? It is not an option for her to be carry on. Additional comments, links, information regarding international travel of pets and how to get her a ticket on a flight that I am NOT on would be appreciated, in case I need to ship her alone this fall to my mom in California. I should say that I am required to fly on a US carrier (I am a Fulbright scholar and it is a requirement of my grant.) Also, I don't have much money to spend. I was thinking around $500. $1,000 is totally out of the question and I will have to find another way to get her home.

Anyone know of airlines/travel arrangements for exotic pets? (tortoise)? I have a tortoise, very small and United Airlines says I can't fly with her and they won't take her in cargo. I want to find a way to transport her safely across the United States. One can't transport a tortoise like a snake in a box under in the cargo center. They get very panicked, like a puppy. Any suggestions? Other airlines? Pet moving services? Also, the destination is on the other side of the country so I can't drive there. I can't ship to an address because I don't have an address to ship her too. I'm going to school there.

Pet carrier for air travel with max 24 H and at least 33 D? Hello, I'm traveling with my basset hound and need a carrier for her. The problem is the airline company maximum measurements for the crate are unreal: Maximum of 24'' for height and 36'' for depth. I actually need one of 36'' D, since I'm carrying a Basset, but the height would exced the permitted, which is 24''. I can find only 27'' of heigh, that seems to be the default height for 36''. Some know of a carrier with 36'' of depth and 24'' of height? Thank you!
Airline costs for pet dog on Singapore Airlines??? Hi, I am traveling to India using Singapore Airlines and my kids don't want to leave our dog in the States while on vacation. So I am researching the prices. If anyone can tell me the price, then thank you.

When traveling with a pet, such as a small dog or cat under 15/20 lbs, why do you have to be charged? When traveling with a pet, such as a small dog or cat under 15/20 lbs, in an approved carrier that can fit under the seat in front of you, why do you have to be charged? Airlines charge anywhere between $85 to $100 each way and the distance traveled does not affect the price. Sometimes the pet fee is higher than the passenger's ticket if it is a short fllight. People with young children that sit of the adults' lap fly at no charge. People who have carry ons that fit under the seats in front of them are not charged even the carry on is the same size as the pet carrier. People traveling with small pets are not being treated fairly by the airlines.
Can a 13 year old traveling alone on northwest airlines take a carry on pet with them? im 13 and i will be going from michigan to texas so its about a 2 and a half hour flight. I need advise from someone who took their pet to another country by plane!? I'm moving to Japan next year, and I'm taking my Lilo (Toy Jack Russell Terrier Mix) with me. I checked-out the Animal Quarantine Service's website and started the long process of getting her ready for next year's trip. I'm trying to do everything perfect, so Lilo doesn't end-up being rejected to enter Japan or have to be quarantined for weeks or months! It'll be nice if I can talk to someone who has already taken a pet to another country that has been through all of what I'm going through now. For example, I read on airline websites for pet travel...is it true that pets cannot fly between June and September?? because it's too hot? Isn't there any exceptions? I'm planning on moving in May or June...can I bring Lilo with me?
Delta Airline Pet Policies!!!? Okay, I have a Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) and I need to know Delta Requirments. I've called the airline and the employee was no help. I am traveling first class so the seats will be bigger. I need to know how big the carrier can be, about sedating my dog (yes or no), what happens if your dog can not fit under the seat infront of you, and anything else you can tell me. Please help, my trip is coming up very soon!!!
Another airline pet question? I posted a question earlier about dog travel and I found that Delta will allow me to keep her with me under the seat during the flight, so that makes me feel a little bit more at ease...but she barks with the best of them if you know what I mean. She is not at all a mean dog, when she meets new people all they need to do is pet her and she is perfectly fine after that...but I can't really have an entire airplane full of people petting her...so my question is...am I allowed to have a shock collar on her while on the airplane? Some of you will say that shock collars are bad but I personally don't belive they are if you use them correctly. If I am not allowed to use them does anyone have any alternative ideas to keep her from barking?
How do I move two very travel-averse cats long distance? I've looked at the previous answers on this topic, and I'm not sure there's anything that can help. The last time I moved one of my cats, I had the vet give him an oral sedative, put him in the carrier, and he still cried and howled nonstop for the entire 20-hour trip. I've now adopted a second cat who hates travel just as much and also defecates the second he is put into a kitty carrier; needless to say, this makes any trip exceedingly unpleasant, especially in the summer. I would also be driving a rental car, and sometimes they don't allow animals in their vehicles. I have considered air travel as an alternative, but 1) news stories about airline negligence causing pet deaths in baggage holds have me worried and 2) I read in a previous answer that the fee per cat would be $250, and I simply don't have an extra $500 to spare; I'll be lucky if I can pay for this trip (from Minneapolis to Boston) at all. Are there any other options that might be more effective? I'm at a loss.
