What is the best way to get CHEAP airline and hotel tickets(especially to New York)?

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to New York for this summer. We are both 18 years old so we will not need to rent a car but will use buses, subways, etc. What is the best way to get cheap hotel and airline tickets/reservations. We will be staying for 3 nights. Preferrably July 14th-17th. Thanks guys(and girls)!

1. I think cheaptickets.com is the best site for cheap travel stuff.
2. Book things early. Don't get a car, that will take up most of your budget in parking expenses
3. Priceline or Hotwire.
4. Use Sidestep.com It is going to depend on what day you are going, how much advance notice you are giving...etc. Sidestep will search all the other travel sites (including the other's suggestions) and airlines and tell you the best place to go...and even take you there. You can also search hotels from there. Then always check Southwest as they don't participate with any travel sites or engines... Your cheapest flying days are always going to be Tues, Wed, & Sat. so keep that in mind if you have any options. Your cheapest hotel days are Tues - Thursday.
