are zippo lighters or matches allowed on inter-continental flights (within the US)?
i haven't flown since my navy days (mid 80's). I'm a smoker, and don't know if Zippo lighters, or matches are allowed on board flights within the US :-( I know bic lighters are banned, can anyone answer this?

- Nope, not anymore. Someone I was flying with had her matches confiscated and was threatened with arrest if the person at the desk "wasn't so nice" (he was rude). And the TSA banned all liquid fueled lighters. Hope I helped!
- Actually both you and your first answer are mistaken, lighters are allowed again as of Aug. 2007, just no "torch type" lighters, Bic lighters are fine and one book of matches is also allowed. You can see for yourself on the TSA website: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/sop/index.shtm
- NO; THEY AREN'T ALLOWED FOR SURE!!!
- A Zippo is okay because it does not have a liquid resoiver, but don't bring matches as then can be considered hazardous.
