Continental Airline Tickets

Should I book reservations on Northwest Airlines for Feb. 2007 in light of their labor problems & bankrupsy?

  1. Yeah, might as well...Our government will never let them actually go bankrupt. United has been operating in bankruptcy for months.
  2. Airlines frequently operate under bankruptcy protection for years at a time. The fact that it's called "protection" is no accident. While Northwest is bankrupt, their creditors are completely powerless to demand the liquidation of their assets. The court has the responsibility to set the rules for their operation, and they will be set in such a way that the airline is able to operate and collect revenue until a satisfactory portion of their debt is paid. So the fact that they are in bankruptcy virtually guarantees that they will be in operation next year.
  3. Most likely the airline will still be flying regardless of financial problems. But there always is the chance that they may not offer flights or you may not be able to fly with them. So my suggestion would be to buy travel protection. Be sure to buy a plan that offers coverage due to bankruptcy, this way if the airline would cancel your flight or cause complications they will pay the fees to get you a new ticket. Hope this helps!
  4. As with anything there is some risk and you have to ask yourself is this a risk you can afford. If the price is right I would probably take my chances but DO NOT buy travel protection unless you are only interested in covering yourself for baggage delays, flight delays and some other basic coverages that travel insurance does offer. No travel insurance will cover an airline in bankruptcy should they close. Get it in writing if NWA or anyone one else is telling you otherwise, but keep this in mind if you buy insurance from NWA and they go out of business how do you plan to collect anything from a closed company.
