What conditions do Polar Continental air masses bring to the UK in Winter?
Description please, not just 'cold'!

- Well, it is a simple breakdown of the definition of "polar continental air mass". Polar = Cold Continental = Dry So polar continental air masses bring cold and dry weather to the U.K.
- Interesting question. Even though the UK does occasionally experience a cP air mass it is usually a very modified cP air mass. That is due to it having to move over a lot of open ocean that is a lot warmer than it's source region and it warms and a lot of water vapor gets picked up. Thus it often will be colder but due to the increase in water vapor, it can bring sea fog and other low clouds and drizzly, light rain type precipitation. So, the main effect is colder but not the bitterly cold that cP often brings to the central and Eastern U.S. and Eastern Canada. Being an island has it's advantages and disadvantages. (I do like your beautiful country.)
