regulation on airline ticket expiration?

Is it true that arline ticket w/ (1yr) exp for unused from airlines, but fed regulations state there are no expiration date as long as price diff./ penalty is payed at later travel date.

  1. It depends on the ticket you purchase. Some tickets have zero value the moment the plane departs if you aren't on it. The Feds have de-regulated the airline industry, for the most part. If you have a gripe with the airline, don't count on the government for much help.
  2. From what I read, the D.O.T. allows the airlines to come up with their own "Service Plan" on this, and as a travel agent, I do know that most of them have the one year policy, however, I have also found that if you write to their customer relations department, most of them are willing to extend that period for you as long as you contact them before the original expiration date and give them simple explanation of why you are not able to use it before the deadline.
