DODDS Dependents and overseas travel?
I am trying to find out if a dependent child who is a full time college student qualifies for a FREE airline ticket to visit the deployed DODDS family member overseas? Is there a website, manual, or regulation that outlines this? What if dependent child #2 is only in middle school, do they also qualify. Tks

- Good Luck with that
- Here is your answer and yes it is true. Must be your lucky day. Authority: Joint Travel Regulations (JTR), Volume II, Chapter 5 Student Educational Travel: This allowance is paid as a reimbursable allowance for one round trip per year between the United States and the overseas post of duty for the dependent child of a DoD employee, when the dependent child receives either secondary school (e.g., high school) education, post secondary vocational or technical education, or undergraduate college education in the United States. Employees who are eligible for a Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) are eligible for the student educational travel allowance. This is a taxable allowance. Further information on the education travel allowance is found in Section 280 of the DSSR.
