Help finding a cat carrier for continental airlines?
I am flying with my cat (about 12 pounds) on Continental in the cabin. I've never flown with a cat and am having a hard time finding a carrier. The dimensions are small for continental (9 inches in height for hard). I've already decided to go with a soft kennel to allow her maximum room. Where can I find these kennels? If 9 inches is the max for hard what height should I look at for soft? Thanks

- At pet stores they will have the dimensions on the carriers. I hope you will be able to find one.
- You should be able to find it at a PetSmart. There's a wide selection of various sizes so that you can find one to fit the dimensions you need. They even have some that are airline endorsed.
- From the Continental - In-cabin Pets webpage (http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/travel/animals/in_cabin.aspx?SID=ABA301E33631479F9A7330236B1E496A) You may be able to buy one from Continental, though I doubt it is a soft carrier: "In-cabin pet kennels may be available for $55.00. The dimensions are 17" L x 12.5" W x 8" H (43 cm L x 32 cm W x 20 cm H)." As mentioned by someone above, Petco, Petsmart, or your local pet shop should have an appropriate pet carrier. If you have time, you can order the carrier online through the stores above, Amazon or other pet supply store. Also, if you haven't already, I would double-check (even triple-check) the requirements (pet size, health, shots, etc.) w/ an agent. I'm not sure if this applies just to pets shipped as cargo, but I was told that the pet must be able to stand up and turn around in the carrier. Good luck!
- Soft carriers can be found in most larger pet stores, or through online and catalog firms such as Foster & Smith. They have the same dimensions as hard carriers, so 9 inches is 9 inches anywhere; the description or label will tell you what size it is. Most carriers designed for use on airlines will have a tag that says 'airline approved' or something similar. The link below (assuming it comes through) is a carrier on the Foster & Smith site; it says 'airline approved' and states the height as 10 1/2" but apparently it squishes a little to fit under seats.
