Continental Airline Tickets

How long does it take to get hired at continental airlines as a pilot from when you get hired at expressjet?

About how many years do you spend at expressjet before you can make the jump to Continental Airlines as a pilot, or any other major carrier

  1. 2 weeks Duh
  2. That's a hard question to answer. It naturally depends on whether the majors are hiring and how many pilots they are hiring. For a ball park answer it also would depend on how many hours you had when hired at Express. Say you had 1000 hrs. and you made captain in 2 yrs it would take probably at the very least 2 more years. You can throw all that speculation out the window if the airlines are in dire need of pilots, then they will hire warm bodies, almost. If they are not hiring many pilots, you will need a couple of lunar landing plus the Express experience.
  3. You might want to have more than ExpressJet captaincy to get hired by a major carrier.
  4. It depends. First, I hope you don't think that working for Expressjet gives you a leg up on getting hired at Continental. Second, Continental has pilots on furlough, so it could be a very long time. As to getting hired at a place like Continental (i.e. a legacy airline), it's all about who you know. The people who get interviews are those that have contacts. There is no set amount of time you have to spend at a regional. Continental has hired flight instructors with no jet experience at all. They have also hired very junior regional first officers. Again, it's all who you know, not what type ratings you have or what you have logged in your logbook.
