Are cycling trainer tires supposed to turn black?
I have a Continental trainer tire I put on my road bike (completely orange tire) and I only use the tire while I'm on the trainer (1up Trainer). I've noticed that the surface area where the tire runs on the trainer, that area is becoming black. I checked the ground clearance to make sure I wasn't rubbing into the trainer mat but I have ample clearance. Are trainer tire's supposed to take on a black shade in the contact area? If not, any resolutions?

- Yes, this is normal. A bit of the metal rubs off the roller and they appear to be black, and perhaps some of the old rubber from a previous tire as well. When I use a plain old black tire it appears as a gray/silverish residue on the tire.
- I don't know if I'd waste Continentals on the trainer..... I buy the cheapest tires I can find for trainer use.
- Continental has a new tire out that runs cold, designed specifically for trainers...I'd check your local shop...
