Do I have to use same manufacture's tire to replace the flat one ?

I got a flat tire and need to replace one. I was told by a mechanic that I needed to get the one from the same manufacture. I have 215-R60/16 of continental tire but I thought that I can get anyone's as long as the size is same. Isn't it ?

  1. I am by no means an expert, but it sounds like he's trying to rip you off. If the tire is the same size, it should work just fine. I have 3 of one brand and 1 of another on my car.
  2. To have 3 of one brand of tire and a 4th tire of a different brand, even if same size, speed rating, etc. it will cause issues, make the car lean or sink, make it ride funny, etc. the only time you should miss match tire names/brands/sizes is front to back....meaning both front are the same, both rear are the same. now if your other 3 tires are fairly new....just but 1 tire of the same to replace the flat, so you have a matching set. if the other 3 tires are getting near time to replace...then go ahead and buy 2 tires that you like, either the same or different, and then have them mounted on both fronts or both rears. if you have a full size spare, it should match the tires on your car as well. a car can be all that....but without good tires, its nothing....as that is the only part that is saving your back side as that is the only part of the car that ever touches the pavement....its the most important part of a car hands down.
  3. if you replace a pair (front or rear)it does not mater.if you replace only one. the car will be unbalanced and dangerous.
  4. as long as its the same size and same tyre pressure it will not be a problem
