Continental Airline Tickets

Can an airline change your flight itinerary without your permission?

I made a flight reservation through AAA.com, and recently received a flight itinerary change in the mail (from AAA). The change is not convenient at this time, but my flight is not until May, therefore I am afraid that this could become a problem. Do airline typically change itineraries often? This is my first trip by plane, therefore I am unaware.

  1. Because airlines have schedule changes all the time, yes it can happen. If the change is an inconvenience for you, you can call them and have them book something more convenient for you. Since it was involuntary they work with you.
  2. I'd be interested to know what kind of change. In any case, with the world economy as it is, many airlines are cancelling flights, changing routes etc to save themselves money (hey, they're in business to make profit after all, don't lose sight of that). The fact you have booked so far in advance, perhaps that flight route has now been cancelled, so they have put you on an alternative to at least get you where you want to go. But, as someone else here said, if that doesn't suit you, and the change was made by the company, call them and ask why, and try to arrange something that does suit you. No point getting angry and demanding though, until you've heard the reason. I'm thinking of an airline here recently that stopped flying to a particular city - but they still did all they could to honour those passengers who already had tickets - often at great expense to the airline.
  3. An airline can definitely change your flight itinerary without your permission and they have done it with me before. With the airlines still losing money, many times they will cut out flights so that they can put more passengers on each flight. Just call the airline and be flexible.
