Who provides the kosher meals for Continental Airlines?
Was trying to research the kosher meal providers for Continental Airlines as their meals are absolutely fantastic for airplane food. Many thanks!

- I would be SHOCKED if anyone on here knew the answer to that. May i suggest calling continental customer service and asking them?
- SkyChefs and Gate Gourmet are just two of the companies that Continental Airlines use for their meals. They provide both the Kosher and normal meals for the airlines. SkyChefs and Gate Gourmet are the two most widely recognized airline catering services in the world. Between them, they handle almost all of the major US Airlines that serves meals on their planes. Plus both companies have warehouses where they prep the foods daily on almost all major airports served by their clients. For the airports they are not at, the planes are stocked with extra food for the flight before it leaves an airport where it is serviced. Both companies cook kosher and non-kosher food. Some international cities not served by any of these companies may be served by smaller companies such as: Servair, SATS Catering, and Dnata. In these situations, the arilines will make contracts with them.
- I'm a Former Flight Attendant. I'm also Jewish and though I'm don't keep strict kosher, I do follow some of the rules and have trouble digesting dairy. Sky Chefs and Gate Gourmet do NOT cook their own kosher meals. Those have to come from a strictly glatt kosher caterer (I've always had Glatt served to me) and it changes with each city. These meals are contracted out because it would be impossible for a "normal" caterer to follow kosher guidelines (especially the meat rules). They are usually delivered frozen and kept by the caterer in the sealed tray until ordered. There is always a little piece of paper inserted which says exactly who prepared the meal and which rabbinical jurisdiction gave their approval. Generally, from my experience flying, the company changes from airport to airport and the quality too can be very different. I would guess that it's entirely possible that all airlines at a certain airport get their kosher meals from the same source. It might be difficult to contact the airline caterers directly and probably not worth the time. What I would recommend is to contact the Chabad House in the city where you will be flying out of. Chances are, they have that information, as well as experience themselves ordering out of that airport. http://www.chabad.org/centers/default_cdo/jewish/Centers.htm Good luck!
- Special meals are usually much better than standard meals on any airline because they are always exceptions to the rule and tend to receive more attention and care, especially since they often must satisfy special conditions that regular meals don't have to. Asking for a kosher meal on an airline is often a good way to get a nice meal even if you're not Jewish.
