- Money orders are one of the safest ways to track and send money. 1.- you should have a small section of the original money order or receipt with the money order number on it. 2- Go to the Post Office, bank or institution that provided the money order and ask them to track that order down. They will help you fill out a form and track it down for you. 3- They will then be able to tell you if that numbered money order had been cashed, where, the date and sometimes who signed for it. 4. If it is a bank money order/cheque they may be able to track it down on their computer straight away. Go to General Enquiries, not the Teller section. 5. If they find it has gone missing in the post, transaction, whatever; they will re-issue you another one without having to pay for the fee you originally had to pay. 6. This may take up to 2 weeks to receive an answer. 7. Advice- ALWAYS! hold onto the receipt or slip they give you until you are sure the money order has been received. If proof is required urgently for a court case, etc., inform them and they will rush your order through but sometimes they need a letter of the court hearing date as proof of the urgentcy. (A lot of people have tried to do this in the past with no urgent need which ties up their day to day duties). 8. Finally, always make sure you put your name, address and reason for sending the postal order on the back so that it can be confirmed you were the person paying and why. ALWAYS put your name and return address on the back of the envelope, even if it takes up time it saves time and doesn't end up in the 'dead mail' section. Good luck.
