  1. Well im part of NWA, US Air, Delta, and Contiental. But i really have to say NWA because in their program if you fly RT and one way is 300 miles, you will recieve 500, you will not recieve anything less than 500 miles one day. I have flown many times with NWA and i trust them with my life, i usually fly 480 miles which is automatically turned to 500 one way and total RT is 1000
  2. All of the airlines you mentioned are in the Skyteam Alliance, although Continental will soon be moving to the Star Alliance. Choose the airline you fly the most as award flights and benefits will be be similar no matter what airline you choose within the alliance. You can use your frequent flyer number from one airline on any of the airlines in a particular alliance which will enable you to accrue miles toward award travel faster. If you choose the airline you think you'll be using the most you can also gain elite status and reap benefits like priority check-in, boarding and luggage, lounge access and upgrades more quickly which I think are the most important benefits of any frequent flyer program.
  3. You should choose the program of the airline you use most. If you live in Houston, for example, it wouldn't make sense to sign up for American because chances are wherever you fly on American from Houston you'll have to make a connecting flight, but you can go almost anywhere nonstop on Continental.
