I'm going to be traveling through various countries in the coming months, and have obtained answers to this question for all except England. So: I will be checking a disassembled pistol, ammo stored in a separate locked container, onto my flight (I've already cleared how it's supposed to be done according to the airline's regulations) and will be going to Heathrow Airport. When I get there, do I have to check my gun into a local police station? Can I get it back when I leave the country? I have a U.S. Concealed Carry Weapon License, will this make a difference upon getting my pistol back/having to turn it in? OR Would I be better avoiding England all together, and flying to a country where I have already found I am allowed to carry my weapon? For those of you who apparently see me as paranoid: I'm not. I'm prepared for every eventuality. I carry a complete toolbox, 2 jacks, and 10 gallons of gas in my car. Everywhere. I don't want to bring this gun to use it, I'm bringing it to NOT use it. You see? I'm going to be in 7 countries, alone, for almost 2 years. It's not paranoia. It's preparedness. That said, appreciate the (somewhat useful) answers. Also, to New Jack over there who was spouting bull about European countries despising their citizens having guns . . . shut up. I'm legally allowed to carry my gun in 3 of the countries I plan to visit. In the other 3, it must either be turned into a local police station where it will be kept until it is verified that I am leaving the country. England is the only one whom, apparently, will neither allow me to turn it in and receive it upon leaving nor bring it into the country.
