I am overweight, and I have a Continental flight tomorrow. Will I have to buy an extra seat?
I weigh about 320 pounds, and I have a flight tomorrow morning. I read some fine print today about being forced to buy an extra seat if you cannot fit in the seat belt. I'm beginning to panic since I can't afford that. Can anyone who has had experience with this airline comment, please?

- You should be fine. Don't worry yourself. There is an easy way you can play this out. If the flight is not sold out and there are a few open seats, then I'd see if there are two seats next to each other that are empty. Don't ask the agent due to your weight, but ask in a manner about working or something like that. I'd also ask the flight attendant for a seat belt extension when you board. It will make your more comfy and you won't have to worry about not being able to buckle the standard strap. Working for an airline, I see this quite a bit, however, I really don't charge people for a second seat. Sure, all airlines will, but if the flight is empty, then they may not.
- I am not really sure about how strict they are. Here is what I found though: Continental Airlines Continental's policy regarding Customers Requiring Extra Seating is very specific. Passengers must be able to lower both armrests and fasten seatbelts with one extender. In addition, passengers must not "significantly encroach" on the personal space of the passengers on either side of them.
- And don't forget, if you use a seat belt extension, you are not allowed to sit at an exit row seat.
