Continental Airline Tickets

continental and u.s. airways luggage question?

so i'm flying u.s. airways to florida and continental on the way home. i have a few questions. 1. what exactly does it mean to be a "checked bag"? 2. does it cost to bring a bag onto the plane? on both flights 3. how much will all of this luggage cost?

1. Carry on is free and you are allowed 2 bags that fit into compartment above seats or under seat in front of you. A checked bag is a bag you leave with the airlines and they fly it to you at your final destination. Continental airlines charged in June 09 $15 for first bag and $25 for a second.
