Boeing 757 Transatlantic Replacement?
Hello all, I used to think that the 757 was a dreadful aircraft but lately I have changed my mind - recently one from Orange County (SNA) to ORD and also from Shannon Ireland to Philadelphia. Talk about Flexibility! The flight from Shannon really struck me. I have since learned that Delta, Continental and US Airways all operate a 757 out of Shannon. These airlines are also flying 757s to many other smaller size european cities. I have been reading and reading and am disapointed to learn that neither Airbus or Boeing offer a 757 replacement which could do a JFK - SNN or similar. The smaller european cities which cant support a bigger aircraft will be ruined if they loose 757 service. What will happen. Is there currently a 757 replacement? If not will Boeing or Airbus develop one? Thanks.

- The Boeing 757 is the safest plane in service. It has proved to be a great aircraft. Most airlines in Europe are switching to Airbus. I hardly see any 757;s when I fly these days.
- The only plane that comes to mind would be the 787 that is due to enter service pretty soon here http://www.boeing.com/commercial/787family/
- The 757 will replace most 757 transatlantic flights. Its not just smaller cities the 757 is used to. The 757 is fly on the following routes: JFK-Paris JFK-Frankfurt Philadelphia-Brussels Philadelphia-Stockholm Aircraft as small as 737-800s and A319s are now being used for transatlantic flights.
- There is no need for a replacement, they just keep upgrading
- Supposedly its the Boeing 737-900ER. I wouldn't say-so because i can't foresee it crossing the atlantic.
- The 757 is a very versatile aircraft. Some airlines such as Delta and American will fly the 757 ETOPS version across the Atlantic Ocean to smaller European cities. Right now some the 757 aircraft in service are not that old that they need to be replaced. The only aircraft I can see right now replacing the 757 is the Airbus 330. The 787 I see more for long distance flights such as to Asia. But it may be possible to use the 787 between smaller cities since the aircraft seats around 230 passengers depending on the model.
