14 Year Old flying Northwest from CRW to MNL?
Would it cost as much for a 14 year old flying from Charleston, West Virginia to Manila, Philippines with a stop over in Detroit, Michigan and Nagoya, Japan? NOTICE: FLYING NORTHWEST AIRLINES How much money would he/she would have to take? What things/documents would he/she need? She knows her away around the airports she has stopovers in because she has been traveling with parents every summer... but might be flying alone in March. So she knows where restarounts and baggage claim is...

- I'm sure the cost for an adult is the same as a teenager. I would guess that it's around 600$. I'm not a big traveler, but she should take money for extra food for the plane, and also food after the plane. She'll need her ID most likely, or we did when we went to California alone. Sorrry, I'm probably not much help. D:
- Because some foreign countries may not permit entry to minors not accompanied by both parents without additional documentation, we highly recommend you travel with the following documentation: If a minor child is traveling alone or in someone else's company, both parents (or the sole, documented custodial parent) are recommended to provide notarized consent. Minor will be entrusted to a NW staff at the check-in counter by a parent AND be collected at the final destination by a pre-arranged (named) adult from the NW staff. This arrangement is subject to change. Call Customer Service http://www.nwa.com/travel/nwati/#ustollfree
- A food budget is difficult to predict. I usually plan for $10 at LAX or San Fran (SFO) when I fly from SLC to MNL. That is usually just for dinner meal. I bring my own snacks to keep the budget cheap. With two layovers, $20 should be enough, the exchange rate in Japan is favorable for the U.S. dollar, but not sure how much food will cost in Japan Airport. Check their website for estimated costs. Documents needed is a passport. This is the only acceptable ID internationally. I would also include the flight numbers and times of each flight. Remind your child those times are local times at the airports. Instruct your child to adjust their watch for timezone changes. I also believe a minor must have some sort of document the airlines require for traveling without a parent or guardian. You need to contact the airline about documents needed for your child to fly without a parent/guardian.
- 14 year olds are NOT permitted to roam freely on airplanes without guardians. Ask the airline to assist.
- There will be "unaccompanied fee". Y$120 USD/CAD one-way non-stop, $120 USD/CAD one-way connecting flights Please refer to this article: "Children between the ages of 5-14 may travel unaccompanied when participating in Northwest's unaccompanied minor program. An unaccompanied minor fee will be assessed prior to departure and certain exemptions to this fee apply. Please see the chart below for details. In addition, the following policies have been established......" continue reading and More information here: http://www.nwa.com/services/onboard/minor/
