Continental Airline Tickets

Would you stow your wallet and car keys under the seat in front of you on an airline flight?

Or would you have them in your pocket? In the event the aircraft were ditched, as U.S. Airways flight 1549 was in the Hudson, would you have those essentials on you? Should the airline or the passengers be responsible for insuring especially valuable possessions? AIG appears to be offering the passengers $15,000 each, but there still appears to be a dispute that this is not enough.
