Continental Airline Tickets

Will an airline cancel a flight if there is a risk of a hurricane?

What I mean is, let's say one wants to travel to Orlando, FL, for example, but there is currently a risk of a hurricane passing through that area sometime soon. Will the airline still cancel the flight anyway? Or is it only if the hurricane is already passing through? Also, would they cancel the flight even if the hurricane will only pass through a surrounding area? Thanks

  1. the airline will only delay the flight until they are sure that the hurricane has passed and it is safe enough to continue the flight
  2. They wont take off or land if it is unsafe to do so, that could result in a delay or a cancellation. There is no way of pre-guessing, you just have to go along with what ever happens.
  3. They're not going to cancel it they will delay the flight. So you'll just wait in the airport until it clears up and your okay to fly. No they'll delay the flight if they know it's coming. Yes if they're flying through the area in which the hurrican is passing through.
  4. Pilots are very smart individuals. They will not take off unless they know its 100% safe.
  5. presumably "one" is flying to orlando during hurricane season?... they wont cancel the flight, they will fly to their" alternate", probably Miami or Atlanta if it impedes the flight plan, and get you to orlando when its safe
  6. As other already answered, the most likely consequence would be a delayed flight. Weather can be notoriously unpredictable and change on a short notice. Pilots have weather briefings before a flight where they plan the route. This route can then be changed during flight depending on how the weather progresses. Ariplanes always have a planned alternate destination airport if the primary can't be used due to bad weather. As already mentioned, weather can change on a short notice. You can be on the runway prepared for take-off, and then be forced to wait for a weather to clear. It has happened to me, almost 2 hour wait in the plane.
