How can I get a flight attendant job?
once I turn 18 in january i would like to apply for a flight attendant job out of ATL or ABQ. Airlines i am interested in working with are continental, delta or us airways. All airlines require you to be 18 or have a GED but i will be getting my high school diploma june of 2010. questions i need answered: 1) will they hire and train me at age 18 2) all of the specific pages say they are not hiring online. however, they fail to mention if they are hiring at all, because my father is the international manager of the air france, klm, delta skyteam, and im sure he would have an "in" somewhere, although i would like to do this by myself. 3) arent they always looking for people for in flight crew? i find it very hard to believe that not one airline that services both atl and abq arent hiring, especially this coming recruiting season, january 2010. 4) are day camp counselor, gymnastics coach, and waiter good previous experience for work, when applying for this kind of a "peoples" job? 5) arent they looking for younger, taller people? not to mention i am 17 and already have over 300 flights under my belt, there fore am a very experienced flyer. please let me know. thanks

- While I'm certainly not an expert in FA recruitment but I do have some FA friends. I think you should broaden your possible employers to include every airline in the world. Especially foreign airlines that fly to/from the US. Being a FA means many days outside your home town and it really doesn't matter where you're stationed. I'm also pretty sure that every airline is interested in FA candidates. Contact the HR department directly and sell yourself. I do understand that they don't accept on-line applications as that would mean thousands of applications, more or less serious.
- im a flight attendant. im working with delta. they cut my pay in half. i wanted to switch airlines. not one airline had an flight attendant oppening. its not the time to work for an airline.try southwest airlines. united and american just layed off and continental was hiring for a bit then they stopped. believe me its not a glamorous job. please go to college do not work on an airplane. im divorced twice because im never home. hope this helps.
- This is a very difficult time to get a job with any airline, so you need to plan carefully. Get a copy of Working in Airlines (from Amazon) and read case studies, tips on answering interview questions, contacts for airline recruitment HR offices, etc. You might find it easier to work your way in if you have a ground job with an airline first - again book has details of thousands of different jobs you could try, and what training needed. Good luck Verite R
- No domestic U.S. carrier is currently hiring. Many are furloughing F/A's and they will be given the opportunity to be recalled should there be openings. Your father's connections would not be of any help, either.....
