Continental Airline Tickets

What does "US Airways operated by United Airlines" mean?

Will I be on a US Airways plane, or United? What does this mean?

  1. Its a codeshare. You will be on an aircraft branded as United Airlines. Your pilot flys for United
  2. It's called a code share flight. US Airways and United do this often. Instead of paying for two half-full flights, they combine and offer one flight between them. You will have a US Airways boarding pass but fly on a United Airlines airplane.
  3. Most airlines are grouped to form an alliance to optmize air traffic (eg. Star Alliance, One World, Skyteam, etc.). This means that part of the destinations network of every alliance can be operated by one of the carriers which are part of the group. US Airways and United are both part of the same alliance. That's why you purchase US Airways ticket while the flight is operated (managed) by United.
  4. yes, sold by US Airways and you have a US Airways ticket....but it is a United flight. Very important: you check in with the operating airline, i.e. United! If you go to US Airways to check in, they'll send you to United....and if United is a long way away and you haven't got a lot of time, could be a problem!
