is buying airline tickets for flying in march more expensive in december?
Hi, i'm trying to find the cheapest airfare to visit a friend from march 20th to march 27th. i would like to buy the tickets when they're at their lowest, and the prices im seeing now are (i think) a little high. My question is, are the prices higher to buy an airline ticket around the holidays regardless of when you're flying? If i wait until say, January (after the holiday season) to buy the tickets, will I get a better price? Thanks!

- Prices are based on conditions on the travel dates, not on the the purchase dates.
- yes, the airfares will be cheaper during March they are always ridiculously high during the holidays because that is the time when most people choose to travel i would suggest buying them towards the end of January and beginning of February have a fun trip!
- I would just check the prices at least daily between now and mid January. The usually timeframe for the airlines to drop the price to the lowest they will go will be during this time. Be prepared to buy the ticket immediately if the price drops to a point you want to pay. The airline only allows so many tickets to be sold at the super cheap rate.
- Usually not. Compare prices once per week and you will find great deals. there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
- No its not necessary for all airlines booking service provider, even if your booked in advance then you should get some discount. I use a such airline booking service that also offer discount in dec too on occasion of XMAS. You can find it here http://www.atozcheapairlines.com/
- Off season tickets are generally cheaper. Off days like Tuesdays are also cheaper. Sometimes buying a ticket too far in advance can actually work against you. One of the services I use is by Travelocity. It is called Farewatcher Plus. With this service you can set it to alert you when the designated cities you are interested in have a change in fares. You set the amounts. So say for instance you want to know when a fare changes by $50--you will get an email alert letting you know. This is a great service for two reasons- one it helps you get an idea, over a period of time, what the normal fares are. Then when there is a deal, you will know it is really a deal and you can jump on it. And you do have to act fast when you get the alert because the number of seats is limited for that special fare. The other way to save is their Last Minute deals. If you wit til the very last week, sometimes you can get great last minute deals if things are slow. I set my alert for $25 and have an alert set for 6 different airports I frequent. It has been a great service for five years now. Give it a try. i hope this helps.
