Continental Airline Tickets

How do I get a window seat if Southwest Airlines doesn't have assigned seating?

I've never flown Southwest Airlines before. And my co-worker told me that on Southwest, there are no assigned seats. This is unlike American, Continental, Delta, US Airways, etc. I always like to have a window seat whenever I'm flying. What can I do to obtain a window seat on a Southwest flight? Should I check in very early? Should I call the airlines? What?

  1. The best chances on getting a window seat on Southwest is to check in online within the 24 hours before your flight. The earlier you check in, the better chances you will have to be in the first boarding group, group A. To better ensure that you are in group A, if its not to much, Southwest has Early Bird check in, which is a $10 fee per person which automatically checks you in 36 hours before your flight and 99.9% of the time you will board in A group after Business Select and A-list Rewards passengers. Hope this helps and safe travels.
  2. yep, Southwest very egalitarian, after their frequent fliers and people who pay to check in early, it's first come, first serve....so check in as soon as you can!
  3. okay..print your boarding pass ONLINE....go to southwest.com and its the second option under book a flight...enter your confirmation and your first then last name...select the traveler(s) hopefully you will get boarding group A..if you get it..your in luck...good luck!
  4. Check in very early. Calling the airline wont help because they can't do anything. Its pick your own seat.
  5. All of the above ideas are good ones, but honestly I have never had a problem getting a window seat on a Southwest flight. I practically demand a window seat for myself to keep from getting claustrophobia. However, the first preference for passengers who have a preference is an aisle seat. Now, I have climbed over two other passengers already seated in order to get to a window seat, but the fact remains that I have always gotten a window seat on Southwest.
