Why do continental polar air masses have different properties then maritime tropical air masses?

- Because they originate over surfaces that are different, i.e. dry land versus water. The water reduces the temperature variance and acts as a buffer for large differences.
- The property of the air depends essentially on temperature and humidity. So,a satisfactory classification of different types of air masses can be made only in terms of temperature and humidity. The temperature differs between the polar regions and tropical regions and the humidity differs between a continental air mass and maritime air mass. So,naturally continental polar air masses should have a different property than maritime tropical air masses.
