What is the difference between continental breakfast and a complimentary breakfast or are they the same?

I am planning a vacation and I am trying to decide between two hotels. One says they have a continental breakfast and the other say they have a complimentary breakfast. What is the difference? Thank You!

  1. Complimentary means free, that is universal, but continental refers to the items being served, and not so much that they are necessary free. A continental breakfast generally includes, Toast, bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, fruit, coffee, tea, juice, milk. It in essence means, don't expect any bacon and eggs. Hope that helps!
  2. Complimentary breakfast means it is free and hotels that offer free breakfast usually do it self service or buffet style that could be either continental or full breakfast. A continental breakfast means it will NOT offer eggs and meat like ham, bacon or sausage, there is no mention of whether it is free or not.
