How long are BMW tires supposed to last?

So I bought a BMW like 2 years ago (328i) and after just 30,000 miles I am told it is almost time to change my tires. They are run flat continental tires. So my question is, are you serious? My last car, a simple chevy I could go 70,000 or more. Some of you are thinking its alignment, its not, they are balding evenly. Let me know what you guys are seeing, thanks

  1. 30,000-80,000 miles depending what kind of tires you purchased
  2. Some cars only get 15,000 miles out of a set of tires. It depends on a lot of factors.
  3. Not every tire lasts the same amount. High performance tires don't last as long. BMW considers themselves a luxury performance car. They would have higher performance tires which wear faster. Chevy doesn't unless you were driving a Vette or something like that. They use tires that provide a comfy quiet ride and a longer life with lower performance.
  4. My BMW runflats were done at about the same mileage. However as others have said there are many factors that determine tire life span including driving style. If you want to save some money I would recommend either ditching the run flats and making necessary arrangements if you do get a flat (spare tire kit, can of fix-a-flat and compressor etc). Or buy your new set of run flats online for significant saving vs the dealer.
  5. No matter what car you drive, the life of the tires is entirely dependent on the "category" of tire and the way that you drive any given car. You can put an H rated tire on your BMW that will last a lot longer than a Z rated tire, but the H tire will not perform nearly as well as the Z tire. So its all up to the "balance" you want between performance and longevity. I really like the Kumho tires for a 3 series. The AST tires are Z rated, yet have a 420 rating on treadlife. About a "once a year" tire given my driving style and mileage yet they're only about $90 a tire! Anyway... hope this helps you with tire selection decisions.
