Continental Airline Tickets

What will happen to the gate layout at the Indianapolis International Airport after the airline mergers?

Just wondering if anybody knows what will happen to where the gates are at the Indianapolis International Airport after all the airline mergers. United and Continental are merging into one, but they are at two different terminals, which terminal will they relocate to, or will they stay at their same gates? Because Delta has all of terminal A except for the gates operated by Continental. Will United move to the Continental gates, or will some other airline take over those gates? What will happen to the gates after the Southwest and Airtran merger? Both airlines are at the same terminal, but they are at different ends. What will happen to those? Plus, I heard that Branson Air Express was at terminal B, where are all those airlines gonna go?

  1. you are waaaay too early asking this question. Once the integration teams even figure out a timetable for the joint airlines, they will look at stuff like this. Figure at least 6 months!
  2. Assuming the merger for United and Continental does receive government approval, it looks as though there are some vacant gates at B16 and B20 which is right next to the United gates of B22 and B24. Assuming the Southwest/AirTran merger goes through, Southwest currently uses gates B4 and B5 but it looks as though gate B3 is empty. Maybe AirTran can move to B3. If AirTran currently uses more than 1 gate at IND, another possibility can be that Southwest and AirTran move to Concourse A and use the gates Continental gave up (A17 and A21) and have gates A23, A24 and A25 which appear empty according to the interactive map I was using. Another option is that United moves to Concourse A and then they have gates A17, A21, A23, A24. Then Southwest moves to the end of Concourse B and uses the gates United abandons. Of course this is all speculation and I think the airport people will be able to figure all this out.
