Traveling with pet on South West airline?

I am traveling (from San Jose to Burbank, CA if that matters) this long weekend with my dog on South West airline. I had no previous experience and I am wondering how I can do it. Any thought on this matter (regarding carrier, fees, regulations etc.) will be much appreciated. Thank you.
