How to gain more One Pass air Miles?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but i've never used miles before. I have One Pass miles with Continental. I don't have enough to redeem for a flight. But i am going to be booking 4 roundtrip tickets from California to New York. I'm assuming this is going to give me more miles (besides the fact of using my credit card to pay for this). If so, do I have to book directly through Continental to accumulate more miles, or can I use a site such as Hotwire or Expedia and still get miles for the tickets?

  1. The 4 Roundtrip tickets have to be in your name and you have to be flying them IF you book through Continental, you are guaranteed to get those miles. IF you book on other sites, it may not be guaranteed. Sometimes those other sites are able to get deeply discounted tickets, though miles can not be redeemed on those tickets. You can also rack miles by doing online shopping. If you upgrade to first or business class, you can mileage bonuses also.
  2. No, it does not matter where you buy your CONTINENTAL tickets from, as long as your number goes in them. If you look on the ONEPASS website, it will tell you a list of affiliates thru which you can earn mile (e.g. hotel chains, car rental companies etc), PS. The 4 round-trip ticket all have to be for you, can't accumulate miles for yourself on your companion's flights. By the way, I am good at Continental, if you need any advice when you have a quote...
