Can my husband petition child support be modified it travel costs increase due to military move? It is possible that we could get stationed overseas and the increase in plane tickets from what we pay now will go up greatly. We are concerned that we won't be able to afford plane tickets at the frequency we've been able to buy them after an international move. On average we spend $600 (airfare and fees) per visit. Plane tickets to two of our possible new duty stations are $1400 and up and $2000 and up. We have been able to maintain a routine of 3 to 4 visits per year (depending on if we get Thanksgiving or not) With these prices we'll be lucky if we can buy one round trip ticket a year. Additionally, my husband's orders have start and ending times set to 6pm and airline regulations say minors cannot travel on the last flight. The second to last flights are either around 2pm or early morning. Our orders were issued in Texas. I know that lawyers and the court will be able to answer this question better, but before spending money I hoped someone in a similar situation would be able to provide some insight. I know that child support is to support the child. I am not confused about that. But the courts are supposed to side with the best interest of the child. In this case it would seem that if the child is well supported by the custodial parent it would be in her best interest to decrease child support so she can maintain a relationship with her father and siblings. Again, I am looking for advice from someone who has experienced a similar situation. Thanks.
