Can I become a major airline flight attendant while serving in the Marine Reserves?
I am going to Marine Corps Basic Training in January, but have interest in a job as a flight attendant for major airlines such as Delta, US Air, etc. Is this possible and will serving in the military hurt my chances of being hired since I will have to attend Marine drill once a month?

- Yes
- I served 20 years as pilot in the Air Force Reserve - Was no problem - I was an airline pilot... So the comparison is about same for your case - Should you feel discriminated by airline employer, let the government know - Airline will be in a lot of hot water -
- Most airlines, like all major employers recognize and are required to honor military commitments. But whether or not you can work as a flight attendant depends on if you are qualified for the job and if you can be hired. It is pretty competitive; not in the same way as the Marines, but for different reasons. If you are going to basic training in January, are you enlisting as a reservist or have you committed for a period of active duty? Unclear. Get your military training and service out of the way first, and make sure you even make it through basic training before worrying about any future jobs. Military background is a plus, but you should also have some customer service background. Don't get any visible tattoos or piercings; this will disqualify you for the flight attendant job. Strive to get an honorable discharge to IRR because you will have to provide your DD-214. Then, start applying for positions at airlines. None of the major airlines hire that frequently, so at whatever point you are free of your military full time obligation you should apply at whichever airlines happen to be hiring. To start your research; a free website written by a flight attendant will give you information about the job, hiring guidelines and which airlines are hiring.
