Continental Airline Tickets

Will I get some refund for cancellation of my flight in US airways?

I recently, bought a ticket for Canada but as I (Canadian immigrant with Pakistani passport) have to stopover in USA I think I need visa for USA so I want to cancel my ticket. I am now looking for a straight flight to Canada but before that I want to get some refund from airline. Is it possible. how much is penalty for cancellation of ticket with US airways. Any information will be appreciated.

  1. Best answer might be to contact the airline direct and ask about exchanging to another flight . . . if you cancel more likely to sa no refund, but IF you switch flights due to "visa issues" they might be more amenable
  2. If you book your fare as refundable or the flight is cancelled due to technical problems, than you will most likely get a refund. I would say that your visa problem will get you a refund. Try to argue the reason that the website did not mentioned anything about a transit visa because a change fee is usually $100. USAirways is a Star Alliance partner of Air Canada, so you might ask if they have any codeshares with that airline that will allow you to reach your destination without having to connect in the USA.
  3. Your best bet is to contact the airline directly and let them know what your situation is, however keep in mind that it is the passenger's responsibility to know what travel documents they need and have those available before travel. It is the airline's responsibility to verify that you have the right documents before they can allow you on to their flights.
  4. All of this depends on what kind of fare you purchased. If it is a fully refundable fare they will refund the full amount of the ticket on cancellation. If it is a non-refundable fare, which most tickets are you can not get a refund, unless the flight is actually cancelled by the airline or has a serious delay. What happens in this case is that the amount of your ticket can be used for another ticket on the same airline within a certain period of time, with a re-ticketing fee, which varies by airlines and type of fare. When you cancel the flight you can book a new ticket on US Air within that time period with at least a $100 change fee. Being that it is an international ticket the change fee may be even higher. You need to call US Air. Please do explain the situation. I do not think you will need a visa if you are only connecting to another flight. You will be in the secure international area and will not have to go through immigration. Please check with US air as soon as possible.
