How fast can I corner?

I have a mid level set of racing tires, Continental Ultra Race and was wondering how fast I can comfortably corner. I did my first crit an got dropped at 5 laps out of 20, I pretty much tried to start in the front but dropped positions after each corner because I did not feel comfortable turning in a pack? Any ideas to ease my mind...?

  1. Grow some balls.
  2. try shutting your eyes- it works for me.
  3. Just give it time, the first few races are always a little un-nerving. Eventually go will push it each time a little harder and find yourself going faster thru each corner.
  4. Neither does anyone else in the pack.......but you gotta just do it. The feel will come with time thats the only way.
  5. Hang at the back of the peloton until the last minute. Conserve strength. Stay back where it's lonely on the curves. Blast the pack on an uphill, get ahead and do the turn by yourself. If you don't have teamates, there is no good reason to stay in the peloton, especially in a curve.
  6. Softer tires = better grip in the corners. Also, do a lot of corners when you train.
  7. a racing bike can corner incredibly fast. stay relaxed confident keep center of gravity low nice flat back and ride in the drops weight the outside pedal and the inside bar keep to the outside until you are more experienced and just have fun out there
