Continental Airline Tickets

Is 90 minutes enough time to make a domestic (Continental) to international (Ailitalia) connection at Newark.?

The Continental flight will probably be in Terminal C and Ailitalia flight will be Terminal B. The passenger is my 18 year old son who will have one carryon and a laptop. Continental and Ailitalia have a partnership agreement so that his luggage will be checked on the domestic flight thru to the international destination. I am thinking he has to exit security check point in Terminal C, ride the AirTrain to B and pass-thru security to get to his gate. Both Expedia and the Port Authority are telling me not to worry. My son is young, won't be carrying bags and will be fleet of foot. I am hoping someone with real life experience can estimate how much time it might take.to land and exit in terminal C, clear security and make to the gate in terminal B.

  1. If you booked them together then definitely! Since the two airlines have a partnership I doubt they'd sell you a connecting flight you couldn't make. Traveling a lot, I've noticed it's more about the time of the day and day of the week than how long the layover is. 90 minutes should be plenty, just make sure he heads straight for the terminal. You can always dilly-dally after you're where you need to be.
  2. I would give myself at least two hours if not more. As a former international travel agent, I have seen too many people miss tehir flights in Newark.
  3. 90 minutes is plenty of time, but I would rather take an earlier continental flight if there is one. Reason is because the Alitalia flight is international, so probably only one per day. If the continental flight is delayed, and your son misses the international flight, it's not like he can just wait a few hours for the next one. Also, even if he runs fast and narrowly makes the flight, what if his baggage can't make it? Alitatlia flight will not wait.
